Contributions and support that shaped the work.

Credits and acknowledgements serve different purposes. A credit identifies a defined role or contribution to the work. An acknowledgement recognises support, advice, access, context, or resources that helped make the work possible without necessarily constituting authorship or direct responsibility for the final output.

Recognition aims to describe what actually occurred rather than assign the most prestigious title available.

Recognition may relate to research, writing and editing, scientific or technical review, Arabic and English terminology, translation and localisation, Dictionary development, data collection or analysis, field observation, brewing and sensory work, water measurement and interpretation, design, development, and technical production, photography or illustration, teaching and facilitation, cultural or historical knowledge, access to archives or laboratories, equipment or materials, facilities or logistical support, and coordination or supervision.

Not every meaningful contribution appears in the final text or in a visible public role.

These terms describe different relationships. Authorship reflects substantial responsibility for the intellectual content or final published work. A contributor may provide meaningful research, review, translation, data, or technical work without being responsible for the entire publication. Support may involve funding, equipment, materials, facilities, or access that made the work possible. A partner has a defined collaborative role connected to a particular project, activity, or platform.

A short consultation is not automatically authorship. Material support is not automatically editorial control. Institutional involvement is not automatically partnership. The form of recognition depends on the actual role and scope of the contribution.

Support is not limited to money. Resources contributed may include financial funding, paid or voluntary time, specialist expertise, equipment and materials, workspace or facilities, laboratory or field access, transport and logistical support, data and research assistance, translation or editing, coordination and supervision, and local introductions.

Where useful, acknowledgements may distinguish between financial support, in-kind contribution, donated products or equipment, professional services, voluntary contribution, institutional resources, and participant or community contribution. Recognition of support does not automatically establish ownership, authorship, commercial investment, editorial control, or legal partnership.

People differ in how they wish to be recognised. Depending on the work and relevant privacy or safety considerations, recognition may use a full name, a professional or public name, an institutional affiliation, a collective name, anonymous contribution, or no public credit. A person should not be required to accept public visibility for their contribution to be respected.

Participation does not automatically create permission to publish a person's name, image, words, story, or identity. Credit and public identification follow the attribution, consent, and privacy conditions agreed for the relevant work. Where reasonably possible, a web-native publication may be updated when a contributor's credit preference changes.

Knowledge may emerge from a community, workplace, family, craft tradition, field setting, or shared local practice rather than from one identifiable author. Collective knowledge should not be reassigned to the nearest institution, project leader, or visible spokesperson merely because individual authorship is difficult to establish.

Where appropriate, recognition may identify a community, a participant group, a local team, a workplace, a family or collective tradition, several named contributors, or the context from which the knowledge emerged. Public identification may be limited where it could expose people, places, practices, or knowledge that should remain private. Untold Coffee does not treat access to local knowledge as ownership of that knowledge.

An institution may be credited for hosting an activity, funding defined work, providing equipment or facilities, enabling participant or field access, contributing specialist expertise, reviewing a report, or delivering part of a UCALP activity. Acknowledgement does not automatically imply sponsorship, control, verification, or endorsement.

Digital and artificial-intelligence tools may support research organisation, transcription, drafting, translation, analysis, code development, visual exploration, or editorial review. Material use is disclosed where the tool significantly influenced the published content, the analysis or conclusions, a published translation, generated images, or data processing. Routine spelling or formatting assistance does not normally require individual credit. A digital tool is not listed as an author merely because it assisted the process.

A contributor, source holder, or relevant organisation may use the Contact page to report a missing credit, an incorrect name or role, public identification contrary to an agreed preference, an inaccurate description of a contribution, a citation or licensing concern, or a relationship represented beyond its actual scope.

Relevant corrections may be reflected in the current web version and, where appropriate, in its revision history. Correcting a credit does not by itself resolve disputed questions of authorship, ownership, payment, or legal rights.
