Clario · Water for coffee

Water suitability depends on the intended use.

Water can be safe to drink and still behave poorly in extraction. It can protect equipment while changing flavour. Clario begins by separating these questions.

Safety and brewing suitability are different questions

Drinking-water safety addresses whether water is suitable for consumption under the relevant standard and conditions. Brewing suitability asks how that water behaves with a particular coffee, method, temperature, and equipment setup.

One question cannot stand in for the other. Both need to be understood within their own scope.

Composition and treatment change behaviour

The dissolved composition of water can affect extraction, flavour expression, scale formation, and equipment conditions. Treatment changes that composition and may solve one problem while creating a different trade-off.

Clario therefore connects a treatment decision to the water being treated and the coffee use it is meant to support.

There is no single profile for every coffee

A water approach that suits one coffee, preparation method, or service setting may not suit another. The relevant question is not whether a profile is universally correct, but whether it is appropriate for the defined use and understood within its limits.
